With the ever increasing need for use of radio and transponder, their presence in hot air baloons is rapidly becoming the rule rather than the exception. From 1 January 2011, mode S transponder will become mandatory for VFR flights in most of the airspace in Belgium and its surrounding countries.
As the situation in hot air balloons is significantly different from other aircraft, Lambert Aircraft Engineering has developed the DuoBox especially for use in hot air baloons. Its unique concept makes the DuoBox an absolute top quality productin terms of ergonomics, quality and durability.
According to your preferences, the DuoBox can be fitted out with a radio and/or transponder and is supplied with all accessories needed for operation on board of your hot air balloon.

The DuoBox consists of a  Main unit, a Battery unit and the accessories. The VHF com radio and/or transponder are located in the Main unit, together with al connections for antenas, headset and loudspeaker.
The Battery unit mounts on the bottom of the Main unit through a quick disconnect fitting and provides 8 to 10 hours of electrical power.
The DuoBox is splash proof. The innovative mounting systems allows the DuoBox to be installed and removed from the basket within seconds. The carry case provides the necessary protection against shocks and rough handling.
The DuoBox is supplied with antennas for radio and transponder, especially developped for is use in hot air balloons. These antennas are suspended from the balloon itself (and not attached to the basket) which ensures unobstructed transmission of signals in all directions.
